It is better to advise your friend than to severe relations with him

Abu Ad-Dardaa said: “It is better to advise your friend than to severe relations with him, for no one can take the place of your friend if you lose him. Be generous and lenient with your friend, and do not allow an envious person  to come between you and him, for in this case, your friend might die tomorrow and you grieve for him. However, how could you grieve after he dies, when you have shunned him when he was still alive?”

Allamah Abdul-Muhsin Al-'Abbaad was asked regarding the Jihaad in Dammaaj‏

All praise is for Allaah, and may the peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of allaah, and upon his family, his companions and those who follow him, as for that which proceeds:

Our shaykh, Allamah Abdul-Muhsin Al-'Abbaad was aksed at dhuhr on tuesday 4th Muharram 1433 in his masjid regarding the Jihaad in Dammaaj, and what do you advise that we and the people of Yemen do? (The Shaykh has been following up the news ever since the beggining of the Hisaar (Blockade).

The Shaykh answered: There is NO DOUBT that that which is taking place in Dammaaj is Jihaad in the path of Allaah!! So whomsoever is able to fight then let him fight however he should seek the permission of his parents prior (to fighting). And I say that the Rawaafidh being attacked from many different angles (outside of Dammaaj) is better, as getting into Dammaaj and fighting besides them is difficult because they are blocked from all angles".

The shaykh concludes by saying: "May Allaah destroy the Raafidhah".

What would Shaytan do with a ruined house?

Shaikhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) said, "Every time a person wants to turn his heart to Allah, whispers of other matters come to him. The Shaytan is like a bandit; every time a person wants to travel towards Allah, he wants to intercept him. Hence, it was said to one of the salaf, 'The Jews and the Christians say, we don't experience waswaas. He replied, 'They are right! What would Shaytan do with a ruined house?' Du’aa for Fear of Shirk‏

Du’aa for Fear of Shirk

by AbdurRahman.org
Du'aa for Fear of ShirkAllaahumma innee a'oothoobika an ushrika bika wa anaa a'laamu, wa astaghfiruka limaa laa a'laamu
Oh Allaah! Indeed I seek refuge with You that I associate in worship with You while I know and I seek Your Forgiveness For what I don't know

Reference: Ahmad 4/403. See also Al-Albani, Sahihul-Jami' As-Saghir 3/233 and Sahihut-Targhib wat- Tarhib 1/19.

Shaikh Zaid Al-Madkhalee clarifies this Du'aa as Expiation of Minor Shirk
Question: Noble Shaikh, from that which is well-known and agreed upon, is that verily all of the sins and disobediences [that one does puts him/her] under the Mashiyyah [Will] of Allaah. If Allaah wills, He may forgive him and if Allaah wills He may punish him except for Shirk; for verily Allaah does not forgive it [the sin of Shirk] due to the statement of the Most High: "Indeed Allaah does not forgive that you join partners in worship with Him but He forgives what is lesser than that for whomever He wills."  [4:48] But I read in a book entitled Zaadul Muslim Al-Yaumee [The Muslim's Daily Provision] that verily whoever says in a day: "Oh Allaah! Indeed I seek refuge with You that I associate in worship with You while I know and I seek Your Forgiveness For wh at I don't know." That Allaah shall cause the Major Shirk and the Minor Shirk to depart from him, so is the one who says this du'aa everyday forgiven for his sins?
Answer by Shaikh Zaid Bin Muhammad Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah):
The Taubah (repentance) wipes out that which preceded it. Seeking forgiveness and having regret is Taubah (repentance).
The hadeeth mentions the expiation of minor shirk, which is Riyaa` [doing acts of worship to be seen of men].

Shaykh Ibn Baaz On The Greatest Form Of Jihad‏

In The Name Of Allah Subhanahu Wata'aalaa..

Question: Is Jihad In The Way Of Allah The Same Level Regardless Of Whether It Is With Ones Life, Wealth Or Supplication, Even If Someone Is Capable Of The Type That Involves Ones Life?

Answer: There are Different Kinds Of Jihad - with ones self, wealth, supplication, teaching, giving guidance or helping others in good in any form. The highest form of jihad, however is withs ones life; then comes with ones wealth and jihad with teaching and guidance, and in this way Da'wah is a form of Jihad, But jihad with ones life is the highest form.

Indeed Allâh will help those who help Him

"Indeed Allâh will help those who help Him..."

Imâm ash-Shanqîtî - [Adwaa 'ul-Bayaan (5/703-704) ]
Al-Istiqaamah MagazineIssue No.4 - Jumâdal-Awwal 1417H / November 1996
Al-Istiqaamah Magazine, Issue No.6 - Dhul-Qa'dah 1417H / March 1997
______________
"Indeed Allaah will help those who help Him. Indeed Allaah is Exalted in Might, All-Powerful." [Soorah Hajj 22:40]
Imaam ash-Shanqeetee (d.1393H) - rahimahullaah - said:
"Allaah - the Mighty and Majestic - explains in this noble Aayah that He has sworn to help and give victory to those who help Him. It is known that the help and victory of Allaah comes by following what He has prescribed, obeying His commend, avoiding His prohibitions, by helping His Messengers and their followers, aiding His Religion and fighting against His enemies and overpowering them - until the word of Allaah is made uppermost, whilst the word of His enemies is debased and mode low. Then Allaah - the Most High, the Most Magnificent - explains the charecteristics of those whom He has promised would receive His help and victory, distinguishing them from others. So He said - explaining those to whom He swore He would aid and give victory to - because He is the one to aid and give victory:
"Those who, if We establish them in the earth, establish the prayer, give the Zakaat, enjoin the good and forbid the evil." [Soorah Hajj 22:41].
And that which this noble aayah indicates is that whosoever aids Allaah, then Allaah will aid Him. This is clearly explained in other than this place, such as His - the Most High's - sayings.
"O you who Believe. If you help Allaah, Allaah will help you; and establish your feet firmly. But those who disbelieve, for them is destruction and Allaah will make their deeds vain." [Soorah Muhammad 47:7].
"Indeed, Our Word has gone forth of old for our slaves, the Messengers, that they will certainly be victorious; and that Our forces will certainly be triumphant." [Soorah as-Saafaat 37:171-173].
"Allaah has Decreed: It is My Messenger and I who will prevail." [Soorah Mujaadalah 58:21].
"Allaah has promised to those amongst you who believe and do righteous actions that He will grant you the khilaafah in the land." [Soorah an-Noor 24:55].
And in His - the Most High 's - saying:
"Those who, if We establish them in the earth, establish the prayer, give the Zakaat, enjoin the good and forbid the evil." [Soorah Hajj 22:41].
In it is a proof that there is no promise from Allaah of His help, except by establishing the Prayer, paying the Zakaah, enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil. So it is these whom Allaah will establish upon the earth and will strengthen His Word through them. However, those who do not establish the salaah, nor pay the Zakaah, nor enjoin the good nor forbid the evil, then there is no promise for them from Allaah that He will aid and grant them victory. They are not from His party, nor are they his friends -those who have the promise of His help and victory. Rather, they are the party of Shaytaan and his friends. So if they were to expect the help of Allaah and the fulfillment of His promise upon them, then their example is like that of a hired worker who refuses to do the labour that he was hired for, yet he expects to be rewarded. So whosoever is like this, then he has no intellect!"1
So the help that we so desperately await, and the victory that we so strongly desire will only come about by: "The Muslims returning and repenting to their Lord, correcting their 'aqeedoh (beliefs) and cultivating themselves and their families upon the pure and correct Islaam; putting into effect Allaah - the Most High's - saying:
"Never will Allaah change the condition of a people, until they change themselves." [Soorah ar-Ra'd 13:11]."2

Allah Grants Help and Victory to Followers of the True Deen

Allah Grants Help and Victory to Followers of the True Deen

By Imam ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

From "Ighâthatul-Lahfân min Masâ'id ish-Shaytân" [2/229]
A lot of people think that followers of the True Religion are humiliated, subdued and always defeated, unlike those who follow other paths. So they do not have certainty in Allâh's promise of victory for His religion and His servants. Rather, even if they don't say it, they think that this promise is either particular to a specific group, or to a specific time, or they link it to Allâh's will (not related to any rules that Allâh set in His creation).
This (attitude and understanding) is due to absence of certainty in the Promise of Allâh, the Most High, and due to a poor understanding of His Book.
1. Allâh subhânahu has explained in His Book that He is the Helper of believers in this world and the next:
He said, the Most High"Indeed We will support Our messengers and those who believe during the life of this world and on the Day when the witnesses will stand." [Ghâfir 40:51]
"And whoever is an ally of Allâh and His Messenger and those who have believed - indeed, the party of Allâh - they will be the predominant." [al-Mâ'idah 5:56]
"Indeed, the ones who oppose Allâh and His Messenger - those will be among the most humbled. Allâh has written [i.e. decreed], 'I will surely overcome, I and My messengers.' Indeed, Allâh is Powerful and Exalted in Might." [al-Mujâdilah 58:20-21]
There are many such verses in the Qur'ân.
2. Allâh subhânahu has also explained in the Qur'ân that what befalls a servant from calamity, or defeat, or other than that, is because of his sins. Allâh subhânahu has explained both of these principles in His Book, so when you join them, the reality of the matter will become clear to you, problems will completely disappear, and you will be in no need of unnecessary, burdening explanations, or far-fetched interpretations.
Allâh subhânahu wa ta'âla has explained the first principle in different ways, including what has preceded (in the verses above). Likewise, He censured one who seeks help and honour from other than the believers, as in His saying:
"O you who have believed do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you then indeed, he is [one] of them. Indeed, Allâh guides not the wrongdoing people.
So you see those in whose hearts is disease [i.e. hypocrisy] hastening into [association with] them, saying, 'We are afraid a misfortune may strike us.' But perhaps Allâh will bring conquest or a decision from Him, and they will become, over what they have been concealing within themselves, regretful.
And those who believe will say [i.e. about the hypocrites and their exposure], 'Are these the ones who swore by Allâh their strongest oaths that indeed they were with you?' Their deeds have become worthless, and they have become losers.
O you who have believed, whoever of you should revert from his religion - Allâh will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers, powerful against the disbelievers; they strive in the cause of Allâh and do not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favour of Allâh; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allâh is all-Encompassing and Knowing.
Your ally is none but Allâh and [therefore] His Messenger and those who have believed - those who establish prayer and give zakâh, and they bow [in worship].
And whoever is an ally of Allâh and His Messenger and those who have believed - indeed, the party of Allâh - they will be the predominant." [al-Mâ'idah 5:51-56]
So Allâh rebuked those who seek help from other than His party and informed that His party – they will be the predominant.
In this regards, He said, "Give tidings to the hypocrites that there is for them a painful punishment. Those who take disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. Do they seek with them honour [through power]? But indeed, honour belongs to Allâh entirely *." [an-Nisâ' 4:138-139] [* Being the source of all power and honour, Allâh grants them to whom He wills.]
"They say, 'If we return to Al-Madînah, the more honoured [for power] will surely expel there from the more humble.' And to Allâh belongs [all] honour, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know." [Al-Munâfiqûn 63:8]
"Whoever desires honour [through power] - then to Allâh belong all honour. To Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises it *." [Fâtir 35:10] [*For acceptance by Allâh, meaning that righteous deeds are confirmation and proof of what is uttered by tongue.]
That is, whoever seeks honour, let him seek it by obedience to Allâh through good speech and righteous work.
"It is He who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, although they will associate others with Allâh dislike it." [at-Taubah 9:33]
"O you who have believed, shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful punishment? [It is that] you believe in Allâh and His Messenger and strive in the cause of Allâh with your wealth and your lives. That is best for you, if you should know. He will forgive for you your sins and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence. That is the great attainment. And [you will obtain] another [favour] that you love - victory from Allâh and an imminent conquest; and give good tidings to the believers." [Saff 61:10-13]
That is, He will give them another [favour] besides forgiveness of their sins and entrance to the Paradise – help and victory:
“O you who have believed, be supporters of Allâh, as when Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples, 'Who are my supporters for Allâh?' The disciples said, 'We are supporters of Allâh.' And a faction of the Children of Israel believed and a faction disbelieved. So We supported those who believed against their enemy, and they became dominant." [Saff 61:14]
Allâh said to Jesus, 'alayhis salâm"'Indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify [i.e. free] you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allâh alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection." [Âl-'Imrân 3:55] So because the Christians follow him, they are superior to the Jews until the Day of Resurrection, and because Muslims follow him more than the Christians, they are superior to them until the Day of Resurrection.
Allâh ta'ala said to the believers, "And if these [Makkans] who disbelieve were to fight you, they would certainly turn their backs [in flight]. Then they would not find a protector or a helper.
[This is] the established way of Allâh which has occurred before. And you will never find in the way of Allâh any change." [Fath 48:22-23] This is addressed to the believers who fulfilled both outward and inward realities of faith.
“Indeed, the [best] outcome is for the righteous." [Hûd 11:49] And, "The [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness." [Tâ-Hâ 20:132] The intended here is the outcome in this world before the next, because He mentioned this after the story of Nûh, and his victory over his people and patience with them. So He said, "This is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muhammad]. You knew it not, neither you nor your people, before this. So be patient, indeed, the [best] outcome is for the righteous." [Hûd 11:49] That is, the outcome of help for you and those with you, as it was for Nûh - 'alayhis salâm – and those who believed with him.
Likewise His saying, "And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness." [Tâ-Hâ20:132]
"If good touches you, it distresses them; but if harm strikes you, they rejoice at it. And if you are patient and fear Allâh, their plot will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allâh is encompassing of what they do." [Âl-'Imrân3:120]
"Yes, if you remain patient and conscious of Allâh and they [i.e. the enemy] come upon you [attacking] in rage, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels having marks [of distinction]." [Âl-'Imrân 3:125]
He said, relating the words of Yûsuf - 'alayhis salâm – that he was helped due to his taqwa and his patience. So he said, "'I am Joseph, and this is my brother. Allâh has certainly favoured us. Indeed, he who fears Allâh and is patient, then indeed, Allâh does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good.'" [Yûsuf 12:90]
"O you who have believed, if you fear Allâh, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allâh is the possessor of great bounty." [al-Anfâl 8:29]
The criterion is honour and help, and victory and light, which distinguish between the Truth and the falsehood.
"And whoever fears Allâh – He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allâh – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allâh will accomplish His purpose. Allâh has already set for everything a [decreed] extent." [at-Talâq 65:3-4]
Ibn Mâjah and Ibn Abî Dunya have related on the authority of Abû Dharr, radhiallâhu 'anhu, that the Prophet, sallallâhu ta'ala 'alayhi wa alihi wa sallam said: "If all people acted in accordance with this ayah, it would suffice them." [Narrators of the hadîthare trustworthy except that the chain is disconnected, so the hadîth is weak] This is related to the first principle.
As for the second principle:
"Why [is it that] when a [single] disaster struck you [on the day of Uhud], although you had struck [the enemy in the Battle of Badr] with one twice as great, you said, 'From where is this?' Say, 'It is from yourselves [i.e. due to your sin].' And Allâh, over all things, is competent." [Âl-'Imrân 3:165]
"Indeed, those of you who turned back on the day the two armies met [at Uhud] - it was Satan who caused them to slip because of some [blame] they had earned. But Allâh has already forgiven them. Indeed, Allâh is Forgiving and Forbearing." [Âl-'Imrân 3:155]
"And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned; but He pardons much."[ash-Shûra 42:30]
"Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He [i.e. Allâh] may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [i.e. refrain]." [ar-Rûm 30:41]
"But if they turn away - then We have not sent you [O Muhammad], over them as a guardian; upon you is only [the duty of] notification. And indeed, when We let man taste mercy from Us, he rejoices in it; but if evil afflicts him for what his hands have put forth, then indeed, man is ungrateful." [ash-Shûra 42:48]
"And when We let the people taste mercy, they rejoice therein, but if evil afflicts them for what their hands have put forth, immediately they despair." [ar-Rûm 30:36]
"Or He could destroy them for what they earned; but He pardons much." [ash-Shûra 42:34]
"What comes to you of good is from Allâh, but what comes to you of evil, [O man], is from yourself. And We have sent you, [O Muhammad], to the people as a messenger, and sufficient is Allâh as Witness." [an-Nisâ' 4:79]
This is why Allâh subhânahu ordered His Messenger and believers to follow what was sent to them, that is, to be obedient to Him. This is the first principle. He also ordered them to wait for His Promise, and this is the second principle. And He ordered them to seek forgiveness and practice patience because the servant will certainly have shortcomings and seeking forgiveness will clear those shortcomings. Likewise, patience is required while waiting for the Promise. Obedience is perfected and completed with seeking forgiveness, and certainty in the Promise is perfected and completed with patience. Allâh subhânahuhas joined the two in His saying, "So be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allâh is truth. And ask for forgiveness of your sin and exalt [Allâh] with praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning." [Ghâfir 40:55]
Allâh subhânahu has mentioned in His book the stories of the Prophets and their followers and how they saved themselves with patience and obedience. Then He said, "There were certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding." [Yûsuf 12:111]

Al ‘Allaamah Shaykh Muqbil’s fatwaa on television (TV)

Question: These days the television and video exist which ruins the youth and causes division in their thinking and they become blind followers of the enemies of Islaam. So what is the way or how do we advise the people to avoid this devil (the T.V.), and what are the harms that are caused by this television?

Answer: All praise is due to Allaah, the Lord of all that exists, and may Allaah send prayers of blessing and peace upon our Prophet, Muhammad, and upon his family and his companions, all of them. I bear witness that there is no deity that deserves to be worshiped except Allaah alone, who has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger.

Thus, to proceed: Television and video are among the tests which the Muslims have been tested with from their enemies. They (TV and video) contain corruptions that none knows except Allaah, He Who is free of imperfections and the Most High. Among these corruptions is the matter of At-Tabarruj (being indecently dressed and revealing parts of the body that should be covered in public). They (TV and video) contain Tabarruj of the women. The Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said,
“I did not leave behind any Fitnah (evil trial or temptation) that is more harmful to the men than the women.”

And the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said,
“I have not seen any who are more deficient in intellect and religion, and more effective in removing the intellect of the prudent man than one of you women.”

And the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) warned about the gaze. He said to Jareer bin ‘Abdullah, as is mentioned in the Saheeh of Muslim, “Turn your gaze away.”

Rather, Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, says in His Noble Book, “Say (O Muhammad) to the believing men to lower their gazes and guard their private parts (from illegal sex).” And He also says, “And say (O Muhammad) to the believing women to lower their gazes and guard their private parts (from illegal sex).”

And in the two Saheehs (Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim) it is reported in a hadeeth from Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallaahu ‘anhu) that he said that the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “The son of Adam’s (mankind’s) share of Az-Zinaa (illegal sex, i.e. adultery and fornication) has been written upon him – he will fall into that and it is inevitable. The two eyes, their adultery is the gaze (i.e. looking at what is unlawful), and the two ears, their adultery is listening (to what is unlawful), and the hand, its adultery is the striking (that is unlawful), and the leg, its adultery is the walking (to what is unlawful). And the heart desires and hopes, and that (adultery) is either confirmed or rejected by the private parts.” This is a harm from the harmful and corruptive matters, and it is the evil harm of the gaze. And the gaze is among the greatest causes of the corruption of the heart.

So much so that some of the people have said:
(Poetry)
“All of the incidents begin with the gaze,
And most of (the people in) the Fire will be from those who belittle the evil,
How many gazes did in the heart of its doer,
The deed of the arrows without a bow and without a bowstring,
It captivated his eye, that which harmed his heart,
There is no welcome to delight that comes with harm.”

And the woman may be a righteous woman or the man a righteous man, and due to the gaze, the heart will become corrupted. Indeed he did well who said:
(Poetry)
“Say to the pretty girl in the black scarf,
What did you do to the devoted religious man?
Indeed he was getting his garments ready for the prayer,
Until you appeared before him at the door of the Masjid,
Return his prayer and fasting back to him,
Do not tempt him, by the right of the Lord of Muhammad!”

Thus, it is obligatory upon every Muslim, who feels the responsibility toward his family and toward himself, to avoid this Fitnah (evil trial and temptation), which many of the people have been tested with (meaning TV).

And the Lord of Might says in His Noble Book, “O you who believe! Protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is humans and stones.”

And the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, as is related in the two Saheehs, from a hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar, “Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock.”

And he also said, as is related in the two Saheehs, from a hadeeth of Ma’qal bin Yasaar that the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “There is no shepherd whom Allaah makes responsible for a flock, then he does not take care of them with his sincerity and advising, except that he will not find (i.e. smell) the fragrance of the Paradise.”

Therefore, it is obligatory upon the Muslim to avoid this evil trial and to cleanse his house of it (i.e. TV).

Yes. In the two Saheehs, it is related in a hadeeth from Abu Moosaa Al-Ash’aree (Radhiyallaahu ‘anhu) that the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “The likeness of the righteous company and the wicked company is like the person who carries musk oil and the blower of the bellows. The carrier of musk fragrance will either give you some as a gift, or you will buy some from him, or you will smell a nice fragrance coming from him. But the blower of the bellows will either burn your clothing or you will smell a foul odor coming from him.”

Then you are going to bring in a devil for yourself from America (on the TV) who is going to come and dance in front of your wife?! A devil from America or from France, who will come and dance or a boxer who boxes, and he’s going to come and box in front of your wife. What is correct brothers is that this is a lack of feeling the responsibility before Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic.

Likewise, the intelligent woman does not like for her husband to look, and have his heart tempted, by gazing at young ladies (on the TV). She does not like this. And happiness is not achieved between the woman and her husband unless she is obedient to him and far from looking at other than him. And likewise for him himself, he should be far from looking at women other than her. This is the Fitnah (evil trial, mischief) of the gaze.
The second Fitnah (evil trial, mischief) is the Fitnah of picture making. The callers to Allaah’s religion, who take pictures on the Minbars (podiums, speaking stands) – a caller to Islaam, maa shaa’ Allaah, saying to the people, “O people! You must adhere to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam)! Stick to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam).” Yet, he is disobeying the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam).

And the Messenger (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) commanded ‘Aliyy to not leave any grave elevated except that he level it, nor any picture except that he erase it. The word picture (in this hadeeth) comes in the indefinite form in a manner of negation. Therefore it includes every type of picture.

Then after that the person comes to us with a Fatwaa (religious verdict) from the noble Shaikh (so-and-so) saying that he permitted that a person be filmed on television and that a person be filmed on video for the sake of Da’wah (Islaamic propagation) to Allaah. We are not disorganized in the religion of Allaah. And the Lord of Might says in His Noble Book, “And the help only comes from Allaah.” We are not able to manifest anything for the Da’wah if Allaah does not want it. And Allaah will never manifest anything for us unless we are upright and adherent to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam). O free is Allaah of any imperfection!

The student of knowledge is upon something extremely dangerous. Don’t you know that Allaah, Who is free of imperfections and Most High, says, “And fear Allaah and Allaah will teach you.”And He, the Most High, says, “O you who believe, if you fear Allaah, He will give you a Furqaan (discernment for judging and separating right from wrong).” And Allaah, free is He from imperfections, the Most High, says, “O you who believe! Fear Allaah and believe in His Messenger (Muhammad), and He (Allaah) will give you a double share of His mercy, and He will give you a light so that you may walk by it, and He will forgive you.”

Allaah threatens those who deviate among the students of knowledge. He says,“And if We willed We could certainly take away that which We revealed to you (Muhammad), then you would not find for yourself any guardian against Us.”

The matter, O my brothers, is being upright. So stand firm and upright for Him (Allaah). The Lord of Might says in His Noble Book, “So stand upright (acting upon the orders of the religion) as you have been commanded.”

The Fatwaa (religious verdict) of Yoosuf Al-Qardhaawee is to be thrown up against the wall (Yoosuf Al-Qardhaawee gave a verdict saying pictures are permissible).

And the Fatwaa of the Noble Shaykh (so-and-so), who gave the Fatwaa saying that filming pictures is permissible on the television also is to be thrown up against the wall. Why?

Listen to the statement of the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) when he entered into the apartment of ‘Aishah and she had covered a little room of hers with a curtain that contained pictures. So the Prophet refused to enter and he said,
“O ‘Aishah! Verily the severest of the people in punishment on the Day of Resurrection will be those who made these pictures.”
Some people say, “Those who make the pictures or the photographer, he is the sinner.” Yet you went to him so that he could take your picture and you allowed it. And the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “Whoever among you that sees an evil, let him change it with his hand, and if he is not able, then with his tongue, and if he is not able, then with his heart, and that is the weakest of faith.”

And Al-Imaam Ahmad reported in his Musnad from Jaabir (Radhiyallaahu ‘anhu) that the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) entered the Ka’bah and found pictures on the walls. So he called for some water and a rag (to wash them away). This proves that they were not three-dimensional (i.e. statues). Also, the hadeeth of the curtain proves that they were not three-dimensional images (i.e. statues). In the two Saheehs it is related from a hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallaahu ‘anhu) from the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) regarding what he narrated from his Lord (that Allaah said),
“And who does a greater wrong than the one who goes and creates like my creation. So let them create a speck of dust or let them create a seed or let them create a grain of barley.”

Also in the Jaami’ of At-Tirmithee in a hadeeth from Abu Hurayrah it is reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “A neck will come out of the Fire (of Hell) and it will have two eyes to see with and two ears to hear with and a tongue that speaks. So it will say, ‘Verily I have been made responsible for dealing with three: with every arrogant, stubborn person, and whoever took another god along with Allaah, and those who made pictures.’”

In the Saheeh of Al-Bukhaaree it is reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) cursed the picture makers.

And you are a partner with him (in this) because you approved of it. Rather, you gave him the authority to take your picture. Something else remains, and that is that the person may say, “(What about) The pictures that are on the money?” The pictures that are on the money, this is from the boasting of the kings and the presidents. It is not a proof.

However, if you fear for your money then take it, and the sin is upon whoever forced you to this (i.e. use money with pictures of people on it). Likewise is the matter of the identification card and the driver’s license and the passport and other things from the matters. The sin is upon whoever has compelled you to do this if you are forced.

A student of knowledge wrote to me during these days – may Allaah reward him with good – saying, “I want to come to seek knowledge with you but I think that pictures are forbidden and I feel that I am not forced to do this, for verily it is possible for me to seek knowledge in my land.”

So I responded to him by saying that he was right, may Allaah reward him with good. This is the matter.

So concerning the picture, do not take a picture except for a matter that is a dire necessity in which you fear that something will happen to you, or your wealth or your honor that you cannot bear.

Then after that, be sure, be sure, be sure, that if America and Russia said, “The earlobe of the person should be photographed instead of the complete photograph of the person,” then they (the Muslims) would certainly say that with them. They rush to follow behind America and Russia. And these pictures, they say that it is possible that they look alike. Yes, it is possible that pictures look similar. A person informed me, who works at the Immigration office (in Yemen), he said, “How many criminals who have a beard, and then they shave off their beard, and they return (here to Yemen) and we aren’t even aware of it, O Allaah, unless the name is the same (i.e. in their documents). So we remain in doubt about the guy and in an investigation with him. And if he is persistent we say maybe it isn’t him. Sometimes the person may take out the picture and put another picture in its place, and this happens.” And Allaah is the One Who is sought for help.

Then, after that, there is the spy. He comes to the Islaamic countries with a diplomatic briefcase. He doesn’t come as a poor person, in the appearance of an impoverished man, in the appearance of a student of knowledge, in the form of one who is barely living adequately. He comes with a diplomat’s briefcase. He doesn’t come in this fashion. So O our brothers! The Muslim rulers have begun rushing behind America, Russia and the enemies of Islaam.

We ask Allaah to correct them and to guide them. We must make Du’aa (supplication) for them (the Muslim rulers) to be made righteous and to be guided. We have mentioned two corruptive evils from the evils of television.

What remains is that some of them want to make their position seem right by using a hadeeth in the Saheeh of Al-Bukhaaree, that the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “Except for a design in a garment.” (1) This statement of his, “Except a design in a garment” may have different meanings. Is this statement truly attributed to the Messenger (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam). I will mention to you the story (around this narration). It is that one of the companions narrated to his brothers that the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “The angels do not enter a house that contains a dog or a picture.” Then he became sick and they (his brothers) visited him and found pictures on the walls (in his house). And they said, “Glory be to Allaah! You told us before that the Angels do not enter a house which contains a dog or a picture, then (you have) these pictures!” Then a friend of his said to them, “Didn’t you all hear? He said, ‘Except for a design in a garment.’” This could mean that it was from the statement of the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) and it could mean that it was not from his statement. This is one thing. It could also carry the meaning of being a design in a garment such as trees and from those things that do not have a soul. So it (allowed pictures) would be things such as trees and from those things that do not have a soul.

1 Shaykh Muqbil’s Footnote: [Then it became apparent to me that the addition, "Except for a design in a garment" is strangely contradicting (Shaath). That is because 'Ubaydullaah bin Al-Aswad Al-Khawlaanee added it and Busr bin Sa'eed did not add it, and Busr bin Sa'eed is given more preference as being correct. In reference to 'Ubaydullaah bin Al-Aswad, then three people narrated from him and no one who is considered authoritative confirmed his reliability, just as is mentioned in Tahdheeb ut-Tahdheeb. And the hadeeth is in Al-Bukhaaree, vol. 6, pg. 312. So it is known from this that there is contradiction in it, or even we may say its objectionable defectiveness, because Busr bin Sa'eed is reliable and 'Ubaydullaah was not declared reliable by anyone who was considered an authority. Thus, he ('Ubaydullaah) is Majhool ul-Haal (i.e. his status is unknown). And Allaah knows best.]It is permissible for us to make this hadeeth the principle regarding pictures, that they are forbidden. What remains with us is the dolls of the small children. People use this as an argument and that the hadeeth of ‘Aishah is considered an abrogation of the hadeeth regarding pictures. No. The principle regarding pictures is that they are forbidden and a concession (exception) has been made for small children to take some wool and rags (and make dolls). The principle concerning pictures is forbiddance. If you want a doll for the children, you make it like this. You take a cloth and put some wool inside of it and you tie it closed and give it to them. This is also just as ‘Aishah did regarding the toy horse (that she had) and it had wings made of wool and cloth. And the principle is forbiddance. This (picture making) is from the corruptive evils, let alone what is disseminated on the television of temptations, and corruptions and things that stir up the sexual lusts. Then, after all of that, they bring for us the guy with the big turban or the “respected man” to give a lesson on the television (i.e. referring to TV in the middle east). In any case, the corruptive evils of television are too many to be restricted and counted. We ask Allaah to cleanse the lands of the Muslims of it. Verily He has power over all things
Question: Some people, if you argue against them by mentioning the fact that the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) prohibited the gaze (i.e. looking at members of the opposite sex who are not one’s relatives), and likewise Allaah (glory be unto Him, the Most High) prohibited the gaze (at members of the opposite sex) in a verse (of the Qur’aan), the person does not consider the picture that he sees on the television to be the same as this form or image (of a woman) that he sees on the street, for example. He says (about the picture on TV), “This is just a picture.”

Answer: Look at this contradiction, my brothers in Allaah’s religion. Some people, if you say to them, “Verily looking at the woman that is on television is forbidden,” the person will respond by saying, “This woman (on TV, her picture) is not like the woman that is on the street. This is just called a picture (the woman on TV).” Then after this, the looking at the picture itself, if it is a picture that is on paper, and her thighs are exposed, and likewise her arms are uncovered and her face is seductive, it is not permissible for a man to look at her, even if it is just the picture of a woman on paper, let alone if it is a picture of her that appears, and moves, and other things as well (like on TV).

And has anything caused more corruptive trials and temptations for the people more than the pictures on television? If the people are not being tested and seduced by the pictures, then why don’t they make a television without a picture. We request from them that they make a television without a picture, we the Muslims. What’s wrong with them that they put pictures of themselves on their books? What’s wrong with them that they take pictures as a part of the curriculums of study, and in other things from the trials and clear matters? The Muslim has no choice in these times but to adhere to his religion and not be concerned with whoever opposes him.

That which I advise every brother in Allaah’s religion, is that he adheres to his religion and not be concerned with whoever opposes him. May Allaah help everyone to do what He loves and is pleased with.

I ask the brother who is asking the question. The person will say, “Verily the television contains Qur’aan and Hadeeths and religious admonishment and panels discussions.” I ask the brother, “Do the governments bring in the television in order to spread the religion of Islam or in order to spread their politics?” With all fairness, the governments bring the televisions and the media broadcasts to spread their politics. So ask Allaah to make it easy for the Muslims to have a means of broadcast that conveys Allaah’s religion in the proper manner that it should be conveyed. And all praise is due to Allaah. If the Muslims establish what is obligatory in the masjids and the obligation of inviting to Allaah’s religion, then this contains an abundance of good, and all praise is due to Allaah, the Lord of all that exists. The discussion concerning pictures, are they forbidden or not?

That which we believe and practice the religion of Allaah upon is that pictures are forbidden, even if there was nothing else to prove it other than the hadeeth about the curtain.

And it is the hadeeth related by ‘Aishah, and it is in the two Saheehs (of Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim). The hadeeth states that she (‘Aaishah) covered up the entrance of a small room that she had with a curtain that had images on it. And the curtain was called a Qiraam, which is a type of cloth covering. So the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) entered and he saw the curtain, or he intended to enter and he saw the curtain, and then he refused to enter, and his face showed that he was upset. Then he said,
“O ‘Aaishah, don’t you know that the people who will be most severely punished on the Day of Resurrection will be those who make these pictures?”

Then, also on another occasion he wanted to enter and found two coushions (in the house) – which means two pillows – and they had images on them. Then he took the two coushions and tore them up. Therefore, pictures, if they are considered pictures of animate beings (that have souls, such as people and animals), then they are forbidden and it makes no difference whether it is a picture on a peice of paper, or on television or on video tape. This is nothing other than blind following and fear of differing with people.
The people say, “It is not considered a picture”, and “it is just like a mirror”, and other things from these different statements. The mirror doesn’t capture the image but the television is a captured image. These are only claims and deceptive tricks upon us so that we remain behind them like cattle. Anything that is brought to us from the enemies of Islam we accept it and meet it with open acceptance. And Allaah is the One Who is sought for help.

What do you say about the hadeeth of the curtain (of ‘Aaishah), oh our brothers? Is the picture that is on the curtain a three dimensional image or not? It is not three dimensional figure (like a statue). So this is a clear proof that no one can deviate from except someone who is trying to be stubborn or someone who has been effected by some other people or he thinks good about some people (i.e. relying upon them, giving them the benefit of the doubt). And Allaah is the One Who is sought for help.

Sunnah of Calling the Athan when Praying Alone

Sunnah of Calling the Athan when Praying Alone

Uqbah ibn Amir said,: “ I heard the messenger of Allah (sallahu alayhi wa salim) say: “ Your lord is amazed with a shepherd high in the mountains who calls the Athan for the prayer and prays. Allah says: “ Look at my slave, he calls the Athan and Iqamah for prayer and fears me. I have forgiven my slave and admitted him to paradise.”

Collected by Abu Dawud (1205) and An-Nisa’I (666) and ibn Hibban (260) graded as being Saheeh byShaykh Al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him)

Benefits for this topic:

Shaykh Al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) said : “  Among the issues of Fiqh understood from this hadeeth is it’s Sunnah to call the Athan for the person praying alone. This is the way An-Nisa’I titled it in his Sunnan. Additionally there are other narrations which mention the Iqamah as well, like the hadeeth about the man who prayed incorrectly. Therefore, it not suitable to ignore calling the Athan and Iqamah when praying alone. [ Silsilah Saheehah 41]

Shaykh Muhammad Adam Al-Ethiopi (may Allah preserve him) said: “ Amazed is an attribute of Allah that the Prophet (sallahu alayhi wa salim) affirmed for Allah in the hadeeth. This attribute is affirmed to Allah in a manner that befits His Majesty. This is similar to all the other attributes that are attributed to Allah in His book. i.e Pleased, Loves, Laughs, Descends, Above His throne and others. Each and every single one of these attributes are confirmed to Allah in a manner which befits His Majesty. We mustn’t affirms these attributes of Allah in resemblance of the creation. Reason being, if that was the case we would say His Amazement is like ours, Allah being Pleased with someone is the same way when we are pleased, and so forth. So when we affirm Allah’s attributes the way He has affirmed them for Himself, we don’t have to understand these attributes  for Him  similar to His creation. He says, “ There isn’t anything like him. He is the All Hearing and All Seeing.”[ Ash-Shura 11]

·         When a person calls the Athan alone every Jinn, human and everything else that hears it will bear witness for him on the Day of Resurrection.[ An-Nisa’I 645]

·         When a person calls the Athan and Iqamah and prays alone the Angels join him in prayer.[ Al-Bayhaqi in Kubura 1/406]

·         “ Allah says: “ Look at my slave…” This is said to the Angels to get them to be amazed as well.

·         It’s legislated to call the Athan for the person who’s praying alone even if no one hears it. Furthermore this hadeeth refutes those people who say the athan is only called for the congregation.

·         The Athan is a reason to have past sins forgiven and enter Jannah.
·         This hadeeth affirms Allah’s attribute, “ Amazed “

·         The superiority of doing worship alone away from the people.
·         A shepherd high in the mountains…” refers to a person who stays away from the affairs of the people. Also it carries the meaning during the times of Fitnah. He flees away from the people during the Fitnah with his religion.[ Sharh Sunnah An-Nisa’I vol 8/ 111-112]
·         Translator’s note: It’s permissible for a woman to call the Athan and Iqamah in the comfort of her own home. Moreover it’s established that Aisha (Radi Allahu An ha) called the athan and Iqamah. Hence the women can practice this sunnah. Advce to Yusuf al-Qardawi about not Intervening in the affairs that do not concern him [with regards to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia] - Shaykh Saleh al-Fawzaan‏

I have seen the letter from Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bin Nasser Al-Barrak to Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, following the latter's message to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, may Allah protect him, [including] his research on allowing Saudi women to drive, and in which he says that there is no express textual evidence to prevent [women] driving cars.

I found that Sheikh Abdul Rahman has done well by advising Sheikh Qaradawi not to intervene in the affairs of Saudi Arabia and [not to] infringe upon the scholars of the Kingdom - who have been given the responsibility in this and other matters - with this fatwa of his. And part of being a good Muslim is to leave what does not concern you, as the Messenger - Allah's praise and peace be upon him - said. Every country has its affairs and The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques - may Allah protect him - regularly seeks rulings from the scholars of the Kingdom on the Panel of Senior Scholars and the Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas on important matters.

Moreover, Sheikh Qaradawi has not mentioned any evidence for his fatwa, save his saying that there is no express textual evidence on the prohibition of women driving cars. Has he examined all the evidence and not found any on this issue? When he says that here is no express textual evidence does he want there to be an explicit verse [of the Quran] or hadith stating that it is not permissible for women to drive cars? What about the general evidence, a fortiori analogical evidence, consensus and the principle of prevention? Are all these not to be inferred by? If that were the case, many legal provisions would be annulled on the basis of Sheikh Qaradawi's principle [that there is no explicit text].

The duty of Sheikh Qaradawi and scholars like him is to look at what they say and write before proceeding to issue verdicts and not to interfere in the affairs of a state that has its own scholars and muftis, especially since this issue is not a necessity which life depends on. Our country - Allah protect it - has lived as one of the best countries without women driving in it. It is not in the interest of women to drive cars, for even the most skilled and strongest men cannot drive today except with difficulty and at great risk.
